Associate DVM Wanted Near St. Louis (Externships for Vet Students also Available)
Hawthorne Animal Hospital, an AAHA accredited Veterinary Hospital is looking for an Associate DVM to join our team. We are located in a college town (SIUE), Glen Carbon, Illinois, 20 minutes from downtown St. Louis.Our mission is, “We take exceptional care of pets”. In order to do this, we must first provide exceptional leverage for our DVM team. We are committed to having well trained staff. We focus on client education through our Hawthorne University program, which is aimed at internal marketing, client education seminars and community outreach programs.
Everyday will be a unique challenge. An experienced DVM will have plenty to keep them engaged. A new graduate will have a tremendous opportunity to crash their learning curve in a safe environment. DVMs are scheduled 3 to 4 days per week. Since we are the primary referral practice in Southern Illinois, we draw patients from a 100+ mile radius. Most of the region’s critically sick patients find their way to our door once their referring DVM closes. Our caseload is very dynamic. We average 10 hospitalized patients daily/per DVM, but it is not uncommon for that number to double. If demand exceeds capacity, we have professional staff on call. In addition to the DVM, our team consists of a lead nurse, one technician per DVM to manage exam rooms, and two support technicians per DVM. We are a paperless clinic.

Ownership Opportunity for Small Animal Vet - House Calls Optional!
Hiring a veterinarian who wants to become an owner of a very successful, well-established small animal practice. I started out as a housecall practice based out of my home in 2012, and now we are a 1.5 doctor, low-stress handling certified full service clinic. We are open 9-5 M-F (no weekends), and fully staffed.Our clinic is unlike any other, as it’s meant to feel like a housecall, with no metal exam tables, couches and ottomans in our exam rooms, and everything performed in front of the client. In nice weather, we have a fenced backyard for outdoor appointments. We provide in-home euthanasia as well as house calls. I also perform acupuncture. We are currently turning away multiple new clients daily - our focus is quality, not quantity.
What we are not is an emergency clinic or a 24/7 hospital. We don't t see walk-ins or emergencies. We do not hospitalize pets overnight with no one there. We have 2 great emergency clinics in our area on the IL side, and multiple in St. Louis.
We have digital x-ray, as well as digital dental x-ray, anesthetic monitor, cold laser, ultrasound machine. Our software is covetrus pulse (formerly evetpractice). We text and email clients in addition to phone calls (can be a blessing and a curse!). We have 100 5-star reviews on facebook, tons of 5 star google reviews, and an excellent reputation in the community.
We're picky about the clients we accept, and enjoy fun clients that truly care about their pets. I just took my entire staff to Cancun to celebrate ten years in business… Our clients were super excited for us!

There are no nights or weekends.Our DVM works with our kennel team to provide high-quality medical care to shelter animals, including dogs, cats and other domestic animals. Our DVM provides spay/neuter, and necessary surgical treatment of various medical conditions, herd health oversight, and healthcare maintenance on shelter pets. Our DVM provides humane medical treatment of all animals seen in the shelter and will play a role in the maintenance of shelter protocols. Our DVM splits time evenly between surgical and wellness/medical with surgery in the morning and other duties in the afternoon. Knowledge of, and training in shelter medicine preferred.
