The Chicago Zoological Society Animal Health and Welfare department is expanding and seeking an experienced person to fill our Senior Veterinary Technician position. The successful candidate will join a team providing high quality care for an animal collection of over 500 species at Brookfield Zoo.
Primary job duties and responsibilities:
Assist veterinary staff in clinical procedures. Maintain and monitor anesthesia and patient monitoring devices. Operate imaging equipment. Cleaning and disinfection of the facility. Conduct various laboratory tests. Dispense medical prescriptions. Administer medications as directed. Communicate on management of medical cases. Other related duties as assigned.
The requirements for this position include:
Four years’ experience as a certified veterinary technician in a zoological organization or comparable experience in a specialty or referral practice.
Graduation from an AVMA certified school of veterinary technology.
Licensure in the state of Illinois within 90 days of hire.
Excellent technical skills and knowledge of veterinary practices, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology and principles of anesthesia. Knowledge of sterile techniques and equipment sterilization, knowledge of infection control and quarantine practices. Ability to work with minimal supervision. Strong communications skills. Valid driver’s license required.

-IV Catheter placement, phlebotomy, cystocentesis
-Digital radiology, Progeny experience a plus
-Anesthetic patient monitoring
-Medication administration/Filling prescriptions
-Electronic medical keeping, use of Cornerstone a plus
-Assist and perform other tasks as delegated
