Certified Veterinary Technical Resources

What's in the name, and why it matters

HB 3360, SIGNED BY ILLINOIS GOV. JB PRTIZKER,
GOES INTO EFFECT JANUARY 1, 2026.

The Titles:

  • Veterinary Technician
  • Vet Tech
  • Technician
  • VT

Will join certified veterinary technician and CVT as protected titles.

Respecting these titles help to support the integrity of our profession and career advancement for veterinary team members. This new law will protect the formal education, license and title for those who are licensed.
Clear, inclusive titles provide greater clarity, understanding and value while enhancing public trust.
Non-certified professionals play vital roles throughout veterinary medicine. They are essential and highly skilled team members in companion animal, equine, exotic and food animal care, as well as in research, education, zoo, wildlife and aquatic medicine - and even in industry roles like sales and support. Veterinary medicine is truly a team-driven profession!
